Description : The problem : Bus passengers and operators face lots of challenges faced by passengers in Zimbabwe and other countries in the Southern African Development Community (SADC) , harassment, waiting long hours for buses and bus companies losing a lot of revenue due to ineffective ticketing and bus management systems.
The solution : Founded in 2015 and made available in 2017 by Vusumuzi Mkhwananzi, Josaih Mahachi, Millcent Mkhwananzi, Gift Chirinda and Mandla Ncube, MyRunner is a bus ticketing application that allows people to book a ticket at any time to travel through South Africa and Zimbabwe with innovative features like bus tracking and fleet management for operators. MyRunner works with bus companies to reduce operational costs and improve the efficiency of bus management solution allows the ticketing from a telephone, bus monitoring and fleet management
State of development : MyRunner constituted a team of 4 people and has worked with 300 operators throughout South Africa, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Zambia and Malawi. Since 2018, MyRunner partners with Thumeza a Zimbabwean Fintech solution to allow people to send and receive money from South Africa or any country of the SADC region to buy groceries and get delivered.
Ambitions: MyRunner wants to make bus traveling easier and faster in Africa. It wishes to scale their business into the SADC region registering and incorporating the business there.
Achievements: MyRunner won 2018 Total startupper of the year, nominated to represent Zimbabwe at the Southern Africa Startup Awards and was named Zimbabwe’s best startup at Seedstars Harare 2017.
Within the context of Digital Solutions in Africa : Bus ticketing solutions are developing in Africa as Khenz LTD in Rwanda, Mtick in Cote d’Ivoire but MyRunner remains the only ticking solution in the SADC region. Challenges in the bus transportation systems are huge and MyRunner chose a growing and needed segment of mobility and transport.
Appreciation: MyRunner is the « unique » 3 in 1 solution in Africa that helps passenger save money, book bus tickets easier and safer and track their bus in real time, and bus operators monitor their buses and efficiently manage their fleet. MyRunner is definitely a startup to watch in the future.
